Introducing a Mental Health Guide to Confidence: A Community-Built Resource for Women with Vitiligo

For many women with vitiligo, the hardest part of life with this condition isn’t the diagnosis—it’s what comes after. The moments in front of the mirror when you don’t recognize your reflection. The quiet hesitation before you walk into a room. The questions you struggle to answer when someone asks what happened to your skin.

Vitiligo changes more than how you look—it can affect your confidence, your relationships, and your mental health. And while there are resources for vitiligo that talk about treatments and skincare, there’s very little that speaks to what’s happening beneath the surface. Until now.

We believe this community deserves the kind of resources and support that make life easier, fuller, and more confident—no matter how our skin looks. And if those resources don’t exist yet, we’ll create them together. Because when this community shares its real, lived experiences, we’re not just helping ourselves, we’re helping write the playbook for the next woman with vitiligo who needs it.

That’s why we created Unbreakable: A Mental Health Guide to Confidence with Vitiligo—a free, digital resource built with our community and for our community. (Get your free copy here.)

Here’s what’s inside—and why it matters.

A resource born from real voices

Earlier this year, we asked you—our readers with vitiligo and the parents of kids with vitiligo—how vitiligo has impacted your confidence and mental health. The response was overwhelming. Here’s some of what you told us:

  • 82% said confidence and self-esteem are the hardest parts of living with vitiligo.
  • 55% said negative thinking has been a struggle.
  • 62% said social situations are the hardest to navigate.

And you shared stories that stopped us in our tracks.

  • “It has impacted my confidence and makes me more self-conscious.”
  • “I used to go out with a washed face… now I never am without makeup.”
  • “I often limit the things I do or wear because of it.”

We read every word. We listened. And then, we built this guide together—a collection of insights, expert advice, and lived experience designed to help women with vitiligo build confidence from the inside out.

Built by women who understand

So many of those who live with vitiligo feel alone—because it’s hard for those around them to truly understand what it’s like to live with vitiligo. The people who do get it? The ones who have lived with vitiligo too.

That’s why the guide features real stories from real women with vitiligo in the Living Dappled Collective, a group of women around the world who live with vitiligo and share one mission—to make sure no woman has to navigate this journey alone.

You’ll hear from:

  • Aiesha Robinson, model and speaker, on rebuilding confidence through self-compassion
  • Natalie Ambersley, advocate and writer, on learning to love your skin one day at a time
  • Victoria Marie, content creator and self-love advocate, on finding confidence with acne and vitiligo

Alongside their stories, you’ll find insights from Dr. Keira Barr, a leading psychodermatologist, who helps explain the powerful connection between our skin and our mental health and shares practical, science-backed tools for calming the body and mind. Find a new spot? Struggling to cope with stares? Dr. Barr’s therapeutic tips for navigating stressful moments can help you return to your place of confidence.
