Your Insider’s Guide to World Vitiligo Day-USA 2026

Women with vitiligo clapping at WVD-USA 2025

This post is sponsored by the Global Vitiligo Foundation. As always, all opinions are our own.

The 2026 U.S. celebration of World Vitiligo Day—officially designated as June 25th—will take place June 26-28, in Charlotte, NC. (We’d love to see you there!)

Hosted by the Global Vitiligo Foundation (GVF) and the North Carolina Vitiligo Support Community (NCVSC), this year’s conference theme of “Look How Far We’ve Come: A Journey of Resilience, Strength, and Beauty” feels especially fitting for the 10th anniversary of the WVD-USA event.

Ten years ago, the first WVD-USA event was hosted in Washington, D.C. The annual event has only grown since then, highlighting a different U.S. city and its local vitiligo community each year. From Detroit to Atlanta to Tampa and more, WVD-USA conferences have been marked by a spirit of celebration and solidarity that honors the strength and courage of those living with vitiligo across the country.

This year’s event is no different. It’s a weekend packed with seminars, socializing, expert panel discussions, and plenty of fun (did someone say “runway fashion show”?!). We’ve got the scoop on the schedule, speakers, and accommodations, plus an invitation to hang out with the Living Dappled community IRL.

Here’s what you need to know about this year’s conference.

Program Overview

The WVD-USA weekend kicks off with a welcome from local Charlotte officials and a “Glam Welcome Experience,” where attendees are invited to come dressed in fashion-forward ensembles (bonus points if you wear purple and gold, the official colors of vitiligo pride) with photo opportunities and a high energy designed to celebrate the beauty and confidence of each conference participant. This glam opening will transition into the evening’s closing event, a vitiligo-centered runway fashion show complete with a live DJ.

Saturday’s programming will include a keynote speaker (not yet made public), a film reflecting on 10 years of WVD-USA celebrations, and a lunchtime “fireside chat” featuring voices from the vitiligo community. Afternoon breakout sessions will offer intentional spaces for deeper conversations, and will include special sessions just for men or women, an “Ask the Doctor” Q&A, and dialogue on mental health and vitiligo. Saturday concludes with presentations of the annual Incyte Ingenuity Awards and a celebratory “Michael Jackson Experience”—a high-energy tribute to the King of Pop—and an afterparty with a live DJ.

The weekend concludes Sunday midday following a morning presentation from the Camp Victory children’s program, a moment of remembrance to honor members of the community who have passed in the last year, closing remarks, and a “Journey Ahead” parade: a joyful march around the block led by live musicians, ending the weekend by striding boldly into the future, together.

Insider’s Tips from Yours Truly

Events like WVD-USA can feel a bit daunting if you’ve never attended before, or if you don’t know anyone else who’s going. But take it from this veteran WVD attendee: whether it’s your first time or your 10th time, you’ll walk away from this weekend deeply impacted by the experiences and connections you found at WVD-USA.

Here are some insider tips for getting the most of this experience:

  1. Bring a friend—or join Living Dappled
Being in a crowded room can feel easier when you have someone with you. Bring a friend, or if you’re traveling solo, connect with Living Dappled—Friday’s coffee shop meet-and-greet is a perfect way to meet community members before the conference begins. (See below.) You don’t have to walk in alone.
  2. Dress in confidence
Day to day, you might deal with stares. At WVD-USA, this is your space to dress however you want, without judgment, among people who understand your experience. Embrace the moment. Purple and gold are the official colors of vitiligo pride, but wear what makes you feel powerful and comfortable.
  3. Step outside your comfort zone
Being surrounded by people who look like you can feel empowering. Take advantage of the moment to do something new—join the dance party, speak up in a breakout session, or take pictures with new friends. This weekend is for you and it’s up to you to make the most of it.
  4. Take care of yourself during the weekend
Vitiligo can be a heavy experience. Walking into a room where that’s the focus of the weekend? That can also feel vulnerable and emotional. Remember to be kind to yourself. Give yourself permission to step away for quiet moments if you need to recharge. Pack the things that will help you be comfortable: water, snacks, a notebook, and anything that helps you feel grounded.
  5. Plan a “recharge” day after the event
WVD-USA is exciting, but it can also be emotionally draining. You may find that the emotions of the weekend only catch up to you after the activities are over. If possible, schedule an extra day after the event to rest, reflect, and process the experience.

Join Living Dappled for a Meet and Greet

One of my favorite things about the WVD-USA event is the chance to connect face-to-face with the women who make up the Living Dappled community. Getting to meet people who you’ve only known through online handles, and reigniting friendships formed through years of conference and internet connection is always such a highlight.

This year, Living Dappled is hosting a coffee shop meet-and-greet on Friday afternoon before the conference begins. Come join us. You can grab a coffee or a snack, or just come to hang. We can’t wait to see you. Here’s where we’ll be:

  • When: 1 p.m. – 3 p.m., Friday, June 26th
  • Where: Amélie’s Uptown French Bakery & Cafe | 380 S College St, Charlotte, NC 28202 (a 6-minute walk from The Westin Charlotte, the WVD-USA venue)
  • RSVP: Let us know you’re coming by emailing erika@livingdappled.com
